The University Grants Commission (UGC) on July 03, 2026, issued notification on request to HEls for Identification and Academic Integration of SWAYAM MOOCs for the July 2026 Semester.
SWAYAM is the Government of India’s national online learning platform offering high-quality MOOCs across multiple disciplines, aligned with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It promotes multidisciplinary learning, flexibility, and wider student choice while enabling the earning of academic credits. As per UGC regulations, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) may permit up to 40% of courses in a semester to be taken through SWAYAM online credit courses.
For the July 2026 semester, the Ministry of Education has approved a list of MOOCs developed by National Coordinators such as UGC, CEC, NPTEL, IGNOU, IIMB, AICTE, NITTTR, and Institutions of National Importance. The list is available on the SWAYAM portal, along with deadlines for course registration. HEIs are required to ensure that students complete their registrations within the specified timelines.
Additionally, HEIs that have adopted the UGC SWAYAM Regulations, 2021, and the examination framework issued in August 2024 may conduct SWAYAM course end-term examinations at their own campuses. This is in addition to exams conducted by NTA/NPTEL and aims to improve accessibility and convenience for students.
HEIs are advised to effectively integrate these courses into their academic framework by circulating the list of approved courses among Deans, Heads of Departments, and SWAYAM University Nodal Officers to maximize awareness and participation.
